This year, VEDC partnered with Capital One to provide workshops utilizing Capital One’s Cafés in Santa Monica, Glendale, and Downtown Los Angeles. The Cafés serve Peets® handcrafted beverages, locally-made baked treats, and provide free Wi-Fi.
When we first visited the Cafés, we were intrigued with what we saw and felt. Friendly Capital One bankers (referred to as “Ambassadors”) who assisted patrons, a starbucks-eque environment, and a shared space/incubator vibe. Laptops open, meetings happening, credit discussions with Ambassadors, a wide range of other sites and sounds… and in the middle of it all, a big coffee bar.
VEDC’s experience over the years tells us that many entrepreneurs are often unable to participate in workshops, due to workload, travel distance, and other factors. Our goal is to change that, and we have looked for opportunities to “take the show on the road” and provide workshops in areas more convenient to the men and women we serve. This summer will see our first three workshops at Capital One Cafés with one-on-one consultations for small business loans, an access to capital panel, and a procurement panel with government agencies and major corporations giving insight into contract opportunities. We’re incredibly excited to engage in the future of small business lending with a trusted lending partner and cutting-edge idea.
