"VEDC funding enabled Shaw and Loteria to pair with the Torta Company, bringing 20 new jobs to downtown Los Angeles." -Jimmy Shaw, Loteria Grill, Los Angeles, CA

Become Our Next Success Story

In 2002, Jimmy Shaw left a 17-year advertising career to pursue his dream of becoming an executive chef and opened Loteria! Grill in Los Angeles. Today, Shaw operates five critically-acclaimed Loteria locations and wants to expand his Mexican cuisine empire to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

Shaw found VEDC in early 2013 as he was in the midst of opening Loteria Grill, 7th at Fig, a prime downtown Los Angeles location for Loteria. Banks and traditional lenders would not make a loan, but VEDC small business lending was able to aid in funding the costs of architecture, permit fees, and equipment purchases with a $500,000 small business loan.

VEDC funding for small businesses enabled Shaw to pair with the Torta Company, bringing 20 new jobs to downtown Los Angeles. Creative cocktails such as jalapeno margaritas, paired with Mexican Fideos pasta and other authentic favorites, have made Loteria popular with both locals and food critics.

Payday lenders are a blight on this country. Their predatory practices take advantage of individuals and small companies who feel that they have no other option for quick, impactful capital. You do have another option: VEDC.
